Sociologický průzkum zaměřený na priority lesníků vykonávajících právo myslivosti
Pancner, Jan
This dissertation examines the value balance of the opinions of foresters who simultaneously practise hunting. The aim was to find out if there is a conflict of interest between their profession and hobby. The data was collected surveying foresters who work on the largest forest estate in the Czech Republic. The biggest conflict of interests was revealed among the employees of LČR, s.p. Their most active hunting group prefers their hobby to other interests of the forestry profession. For the most hunting-active employees of private owners, the influence of relation to the forest on hunting activity was not proven. This group hunts mainly for financial reward. The workers of the Šumava National Park are probably the closest to a balanced relationship between forest and game, because when they found out that the amount of game was over limit and was causing problems for the forest they increased their hunting activity.
Czech public on homesteading and gardening - June/July 2023
Kyselá, Monika
A significant part of the regular CVVM Our Society survey conducted in June and July 2023 was dedicated to the topic of homesteading and gardening.\n\nThese topics are part of the activities of the Institute of Sociology of the CAS within the framework of the AV21 Food for the Future Strategy.\n\nSpecifically, we investigated whether people engage in various activities related to subsistence farming, whether they produce their own food (fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, etc.) and if so, where and why, whether people who grow or produce something in their households give these products to someone or exchange them with someone, or with how many people.\n\nWe were also interested in the other side of the story, i.e. whether people themselves receive home-grown or home-produced food from someone.\n\nLast but not least, we also looked at how bio-waste is managed and how the current food supply compares to ten years ago.\n\nAbout half (47%) of people grow their own food in their garden, 7% in their flat or on their balcony.\n\n\nThe most important reasons why people produce their own food are obtaining healthy food (25%), fresh food (24%), saving money (19%) and that it's a hobby (15%).\n\n\nMore than two thirds (69%) of people give or trade some of what they grow or produce in their household to someone.\nPeople are most likely to receive home-grown food from close family members (55%) and friends (50%).\n\n\nThe most common way of managing bio-waste is to use brown bins (57%), and almost half of people compost bio-waste in the garden (47%). Around a quarter of people who sort bio-waste in their household take it to a collection yard (26%) or give the sorted bio-waste to animals (25%). Less than a fifth use bulk containers (18%) or donate it to someone else (17%). The use of vermicomposters (5%) and community gardens (1%) is very marginal.\n\n\nHalf (49%) of people work in their garden on a regular basis, i.e. at least once a month during the season, a third (33%) go foraging for mushrooms, berries or herbs, and 12% keep domestic animals.\n\n\nMore than two-fifths (41%) of respondents believe that their household food supply has not changed between now and ten years ago.
Metal Detecting Ownership and Non-Ownership Motives
Hrušák, Jan ; Gregor, Martin (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis addresses the phenomenon of hobby metal detecting in the Czech Republic, aiming to determine whether individuals' wealth influences the for- mation of detected finds collections. The mass spread of metal detecting in the Czech Republic since the 1990s has proven the significance of studying this activity. The phenomenon of metal detecting can be classified under contest theory, where agents make costly efforts to compete for a limited resource, which in this case is archaeological finds. From the standpoint of economics, a study about resources allocation, the metal detecting hobby can be an in- triguing topic for investigation. This thesis presents estimates of models based on five different datasets, each containing several thousands of observations obtained from a renowned Czech metal detecting website. The findings sug- gest that relatively wealthier metal detectorists are more likely to submit coins, but not artifacts. Given that coins form a relatively homogeneous group, the estimation results associated with coins might be applied to the formation of finds collections overall. Hence, the collecting of finds is likely to be negatively associated with an individual's socioeconomic status. Birdwatchers: Amateur ornithologists
Křížková, Barbora ; Rynda, Ivan (advisor) ; Šaj, Petr (referee)
The thesis is devoted to amateur ornithologists and their role in citizen science. In it's theoretical part it focuses mainly on citizen science, its features, history and present of ornithology and characterization of amateur ornithologist. The empirical part uses methods of qualitative research, which is based on semi-structured interviews with professional and amateur ornithologists who participate or deal with projects of citizen science. The research problem is formulated as follows: Amateur ornithologists, their role and involvement in civil science and cooperation with professional ornithologists from the perspective of both amateur and professional ornithologists. It uses a thematic analysis to process the interviews on which several topics are based, for example: amateur ornithologist and its concept, relationships between amateur and professional ornithologists and their cooperation, relationship of amateur ornithologists to nature, their self-education, citizen science from the perspective of amateur and professional ornithologists, data and their quality. Research suggests that the difference between amateurs and professionals lies mainly in their relationship to science, which affects other aspects of their relationship to each other and to citizen science.
